Hello Motherhutters!

I wanted to share with you an experience I had this evening that has simply blown my mind! I was honoured and humbled to be invited out to watch the final rehearsals of our world renowned RTE Concert Orchestra in preparation for their “May The Fourth Be With You” performance.

RTE Concert Orchestra

Those of you outside of Ireland may not be too familiar with the Orchestra but their work is known throughout the world. They have been delighting music lovers with world class performances since 1984, one of the most famous being ‘That” Riverdance performance that really put Irish dancing on the map.

They are also known for their mesmerising live action performances, of which I’ve been blessed to be in attendance for. Live action performances from Raider of The Lost Ark and Lord of The Rings, what better way to watch a movie than with a live orchestra playing the soundtrack?

The Night Before

So what can you expect?

It’s best left to the professionals to sum up what folks can experience on the night:

“Forty years ago, in May 1977, the first Star Wars film was unleashed upon the universe. So this year, it had to be done: a May the Fourth concert for International Star Wars Day as we celebrate one of the greatest film series of our age.

Join the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and conductor Stephen Bell for an evening of unparalleled epic themes from all Star Wars movies including Rogue One. Blockbuster film scores by John Williams and Michael Giacchino will be brought to life in an unforgettable spine-tingling performance.”

Joining the RTE Co on the night will be the wonderful New Dublin Voices Choir and of course our good friends from the The Emerald Garrison will be in attendance before the event kicks off. Be sure to get plenty of pictures!

In experiencing this wonderful event, I have some folks I need to give a massive thank you to. First of all to The Queen of PR Angela Rohan. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for allowing me the chance to do this. You truly have no idea what it means to me, it’s been a pleasure getting to know you and I believe it’s only the beginning of a great friendship.

To the maestro running the show Conductor Steve Bell, though we spoke very briefly I can say without question that you are phenomenal at what you do. In allowing me a few minutes of your time you spoke with such passion and a genuine love for music, whilst being such a humble gracious person. The very mention of John Williams and Star Wars brought an enormous smile to your face and it shone through in your words.

In watching rehearsals you showcased your eye (or in this case ear) for minute details, and that alone says everything we need to know about the kind of performance you will deliver at “May The Fourth”.

To two absolute gentleman in Cormac and Cuan, thank you both for speaking with me. It’s always an honour to be in the presence of greatness and having watched you both in Rehearsals it’s clear how much love you have for your field. A massive thanks to Cormac for giving me a little snippet of his Leia piece.

To Photographer Paul Condron, Thank you so much for taking the time to come over and share a few words. I’m sorry I couldn’t chat more but hopefully that will change in the not too distant future.
