Hello Motherhutters,
May The Fourth Be With You All!
We have an incredibly special event to tell you all about. Though May The Fourth is seen as “Star Wars Day”, a day when fans all across the world gather together and celebrate the greatest franchise in the world, today marks an extra special event in the calendar of The Emerald Isle.
Star Wars In Ireland
Over the past few years, Ireland has become forever etched into the folklore of A Galaxy Far Far Away. Through the raw majestic beauty of Skellig Michael, Ceann Sibeal and Dumore Head, Ireland has cemented its place at the heart of Star Wars showcasing the natural beauty of The Emerald Isle and The Wild Atlantic Way.
Inspiring The Next Generation
The impact Ireland has had on Star Wars (and vice versa) has breathed new life into the fandom and brought A Galaxy Far Far Away” a little closer to home. It’s opportunities like these that broaden our horizons and enable us to push the boundaries of our imaginations beyond what we thought possible.
One man has taken that idea to a whole new level.
Stormtroopers
May The Fourth will see the release of an Irish Short Fan Film set in A Galaxy Far Far Away.
Team Blabba have been granted access to the film before it officially releases to the public. Check out the trailer below:
The Premise
Stormtroopers offers us a tantalising glimpse into a Platoon of TK’s as they attempt to raid a Rebel mining outpost and secure a precious cargo.
This Short Fan Film is 100% Irish! The Trifecta of Writer & Director Michael Fitzgerald in partnership with Cork Racing who produced the film in tandem with Film and Animation Specialists Dog Day Media who provided the VFX & Post Production Magic.
Stormtroopers stars Carolyn Bracken, Peter Cosgrove, Klancy Casey Williams, Micheal Fitzgerald, Michael Stack & Melissa Ciepierski. A huge congratulations to our friends at the 501st Legion Ireland Garrison who had members appearing in the production.
What can you expect?
Stormtroopers is a fast paced, on edge film with interwoven character threads seen throughout the production. A lack of dialogue presents a powerful message in that body language and subtle movements showcase the emotions when met with conflict and faced with adversery. In this instance, the ability to observe a TK out of their armour allows the audience a rarely seen POV into the life of an Imperial Officer.
Visually the movie will remind you of Rogue One, The Pacific and Band of Brothers to name but a few. These subtle undertones and sequences of organised chaos make for a downright gritty action packed spectacle. Having filmed in beautiful scenic parts of Ireland including Slane, Mitchelstown Cave, Goat Island in Ardmore and The National Maritime College of Ireland, the natural backdrops really stand out allowing the added VFX to further enhance the viewing experience.
Final Thoughts
Stormtroopers offers us a unique perspective on life under the white armour, giving us an insight into the individual under the bucket. Not since Star Wars Rebels and the forever remembered Clone Wars have we been presented with an opportunity to peer into the inner sanctum of what lies beneath, but more importantly who lyes beneath. This fan film does what every fan film should do, breaks from tradition and canon to explore exciting uncharted territories, creating its own unique identity.
The audience will no doubt be impressed with authenticity that the members of the 501st Legion Ireland bring to the production with their movie accurate costumes and weapons such as the E-11 Blaster Rifle and DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle. When you combine this with the natural untouched beauty of Ireland, it really does paint a picture.
Stormtroopers Score: 4/5 Lightsabers
